GEAR REVIEW Morrflate Tensix PSI Pro Portable Compressor with Quad 4-Tire Hose Kit

Over the years, I have been through so many different compressors and setups in order to be able to deflate the tires and inflate them after a long day on the trail. The first time I ever went out with friends, they started deflating their tires and I wondered what in the world they were doing. They explained to me about punctures, smoother ride, and the more tire on the trail, the better grip and then I understood. A friend let me borrow his cheap deflators and then said I could use his compressor to air back up afterwards and we were off.
I never dreamed how much better the ride would be on the trail. I didn’t know how it would affect my tires in the long run, but that was neither here nor there. This was legit. I went home and did a little research. Turns out this was exactly what I should be doing to keep the tires from getting punctured, great improve the smoothness of the trail ride, and keep everything in my rig from rattling and driving me insane.
Now I need to look for a compressor. I tried the Amazon specials right off the bat. I loved the look of the Smittybilt Compressor and the price was about right so I bit the bullet and hit the “buy” button. That lasted about a year and a hose blew. About 6 months later it stopped working. I went by the local Overlanding store and picked up a ViAir 300 and that lasted about a year. Every time I used it, it would glow red it got so hot, and that was airing up one tire at a time. I needed something bigger, better and more efficient.
Then Morrflate shows up with this new compressor with a 4 Tire Hose Kit. 4 at one time? I’m not sure I need all that! Is it heavy? Is it bulky? How fast will it air up the tires and will I have to stay with it to make sure the air pressure is accurate on all 4 tires?
Let’s see…
On the www.morrflate.com website you can read about this new unit. It states that you can set your pressure, hook the Quad up to the tires, hit the button and walk away…
“This is the same great platform as our regular TenSix compressors, but now with our added PSI Pro™ Technology, and now with our latest “Gen2” upgrades! User friendly, automatic, easy, and still blazing fast. Simply use the + and – buttons to set your desired pressure on the control board, then hit Go! The compressor will do its thing while you sit back, relax, check bolts, make a road soda, or just hang with your buddies. Let your TenSix PSI Pro™ figure everything out and do all the work. For reference, the TenSix PSI Pro™, combined with a MORRFlate Quad Hose Kit, will fill a set of 35″ tires from 10 psi to 40 psi in about 5 minutes… without you doing anything!”
My first time using this was kinda tricky, but that was my fault. I didn’t read the instructions. After getting home and going over the simple instructions, I was able to set my pressure on the unit (and it remembers it each time you turn it on. Not having to reset that each time was a big deal to me), hook up the Quad Unit and hit the button. It was that easy. I was able to test the unit to see if it aired the tires up equally because I have tire pressure monitors on each tire.
It took about 4 minutes to air my 4, 33” tires up from 15 psi to 45 psi. The unit was not hot. I rolled up the quad, packed away the unit and I was on the road. I was impressed. I have never been able to do this fast…ever. Sometimes I didn’t even air down due to the fact that it was such a hassle to air back up, but now, it was no big deal. After several times, using the unit I got much faster and more efficient and loved it even more. That proved to me it wasn’t a one-time fluke, but a consistent piece of equipment.
Unique to MORRFlate
Now…for the obvious part. We all know that most of this stuff is mass manufactured for different companies. Different companies will contact mass manufacturers, in order to put their colors and names on the products, so they can produce them for their own business. Yet, Morrflate has gone the extra mile, in order to make their product unique with special features.
Again, per the website…
Gen2 Upgrades (Also, now unique to only MORRFlate):
- Stainless Steel Outlet Hose (for better heat dissipation and heat sinking)
- Purge Valve (to release the internal pressures when done)
- Resized Aluminum heat sinks (upgraded from ABS so they actually fit the cylinders and works as a heat sink)
- Internal aluminum cylinders (upgraded from mild steel to dissipate heat better)
- New piston rings (better material for wear and heat resistance longevity).
The other companies don’t have these making this product stand out above the rest. When combined with the Quad kit, it is twice as fast as the Smittybilt (and built much better), and 58% faster than the ever-popular TWIN ARB unit. Fast and efficient is what I like about this unit.
Final Thoughts
Obviously, you can read more on the website, the facts that surround this unit. When you read the page, you will definitely see that these guys have done the research and know way more than the ordinary, average Overlander. What I am offering is an opinion of that ordinary, average Overlander.
I love the speed and efficiency. I love how I can air up all 4 tires at one in less than 5 minutes. I love the heavy-duty bag and how it packs up small. I love the quality and how well it is made. I will not worry about this going dead for some time and will give me years of service. So far, after going through several units, this one is my favorite and will be in my rig as long as it decides to keep running, which I predict will be for a while.
The price is not cheap. At $325 for the compressor and $185 for the QUAD, you have to want quality and not be budget minded when purchasing this. Do you really need something of this quality? Do you need to spend this much because you use it constantly or want that peace of mind that comes from getting back home on fully inflated tires? I definitely love the adage of “buy once cry once” but even better is to “buy once and keep smiling” because you know you won’t have to worry about this anymore.
You have invested in something that will give you back some time and make your life easier. That is a good investment to me.
