RECIPE – Hatch Green Chile Oil
Homemade Green Chile oil is something you just can’t find in stores.
We travel to New Mexico and visit the Mexican Grocery Stores there just to stock up on and bring back Roasted Green Chiles, and one of the ways you can wisely use your Green Chiles is to make this homemade Green Chile Oil.
USES
This can be used as a spicy and flavorful kick to many different dishes. One of my favorite ways is to toast some homemade bread with butter and then spread this on top. It is great for drizzling over Pizza, pasta, grilled vegetables, or roasted meats. You can also use it as a marinade for chicken or fix or mix it into salad dressings for extra flavor.
Ingredients
- Hatch green Chile (I used roasted from NM)
- garlic (I used paste)
- olive oil
- black pepper
- oregano
- red pepper flakes
- dried basil
- rosemary
- Italian seasoning blend
- a jar (smaller jars work best)
DIRECTIONS
- Finely chop the roasted HOT green Chile
- Sauté Chile and Garlic for just a few minutes in 1/4 cup olive oil.
- Add black pepper, oregano, red pepper flakes, dried basil and rosemary, and Italian seasoning blend.
- Add to jar and fill to top with olive oil.
- Seal and store.
STORAGE
You can store this in an airtight jar in a cool, dark place for several weeks to months, depending upon the the ingredients. You do not have to refrigerate this, but if you do, it will extend the life of the oil.
